Elyse Ashe Lord (1900 - 1971)
British watercolorist of figures and flowers, sometimes working on silk, and a colourprint artist as well as book illustrator. Lord was elected to the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (RI) in 1922 and was also a member of the Society of Graver-Printers in Colour. She favored exotic and Far Eastern figure subjects, treating them in delicate and imaginative colors. Lord actively exhibited from 1915 through 1939 in London with the Lefevre Gallery, who with London dealer Alexander Reid published her work. Her art was also shown at the Royal Academy of Arts, the RI, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Walker Art Gallery of Liverpool, and the Fine Art Society and Paris Salon, where she received a silver medal for color prints. In addition, her work was published in Masters of the Colour Print, Volume 1, 1927, with an introduction by Malcolm C. Salaman. Lord lived in Bexley, Kent. |
